Weston-super-Mare
Savoyards
I am sorry to impart some sad news. In a special general meeting of the Savoyards, held on the 18th of June, a motion to dissolve The Weston super-Mare Savoyards was placed and passed.
As you know we staged "Iolanthe" at the Blakehay in May. It was a fun show to do and got a decent N.O.D.A. review, but the audience for all three performances was only 90 souls. When we take away cast friends and family and patrons it seems that around a dozen people from Weston came to see us. This, and the fact that we have been working with a membership of half what it was five years ago, has made producing concerts and shows very difficult for us. Being so few we have had to rely on other societies for cast members.
I started with the company in 1996 with "Yeomen of the Guard" and have enjoyed the company of good friends and good music. For many people the Savoyards was their first introduction to music and dramatics and they will continue this hobby.
Thank you for all your support over the years and best wishes for the future.
